Autumn can be a funny old time of year. Some days we can have warm air flowing around us, the occasional spot of an Indian Summer and continued warm weather. However, this season can be truly unpredictable, especially as the weeks go on. With torrential downpours on the horizon, cool breezes in the morning, and dark damp nights rolling in, where better than to spend the night away, in a nice warm 18th-century hotel.
Keeping You Warm
As the nights are starting to get colder, and there’s a high chance of getting wet every time you step outside, you surely don’t want to stay somewhere that isn’t warm and comfy. Here at The Lion Hotel Belper, we have ensured that each and every one of our en-suite is as warm and inviting as possible. This means that we have sourced the comfiest mattresses, along with fluffy duvets and pillows to give you a fully immersive sleeping experience.
You can also choose to warm up after a day outside by having a soak in our baths, with complimentary toiletries. Or if you’re in a rush to get back downstairs for dinner, just hop in the shower and take advantage of our hairdryers.
If you’re looking to relax in the room, we have included sky channels in each room for your convenience.
Things To Do Inside
While the weather outside might be a little damp, you will be looking for things you can do indoors. Why not head into Burton-on-Trent to take a tour of the National Brewery Centre, you can see how the brewery works, and even see how the transport from the brewery has changed over the years, including meeting the shire horses which are still on site.
Why not take a step back in time and visit Pickford’s house. The house of architect Joseph Pickford has been converted into a museum, showing how people lived back in the Georgian era.
Make The Most Of Autumnal Views
While the summer may have passed, it doesn’t mean that the views aren’t equally as spectacular. If not more so. The burnt oranges, ambers and reds that are now scattering the landscape offer an incredible view in many places. So grab your coat and your walking boots and head out into one of the fantastic local nature reserves. Our favourite is the Attenborough Nature Reserve where the wildlife can be found on land, or across the lake. Remember to pack your camera though.
Filling Your Belly
The best part of the weather getting cooler? It’s no longer too hot to eat big hearty hot meals. That means when you book into the restaurant here at The Lion Hotel you will be taking on board the whole menu, from fresh, stonebaked pizza, slow-roasted saddle of lamb, or the chargrilled vegetable gyros. Take a browse through our Gastro Menu to see which items catch your eye.
Don’t forget there’s always room for dessert which includes New York cheesecake, Nutella pizza and a traditional crumble of the day.
