Derby Cathedral

Derby Cathedral is a fantastic historic site in Derby that’s worthy of a visit. Not only is the beautiful Cathedral home to a vibrant Christian community, it also plays host to a range of fantastic events throughout the year. As well as this, the site also houses several historically important monuments to appeal to the history buffs among us, including the tomb of Bess of Hardwick, the wrought iron screen created by Robert Bakewell, and the famous memorial of Florence Nightingale.

Visitors to the cathedral can enjoy a tour of the top tower from which they can enjoy stunning views of Derby. As well as this, the building (which is nearly 300 years old) now features a newly refurbished cafe and gift shop called The Sanctuary. Customers to The Sanctuary can enjoy a menu of delicious meals created and prepared using locally sourced ingredients, as well as a range of refreshments, Sunday lunch and delicious hot and cold desserts. As well as this, the adjoining gift shop at The Sanctuary features a large range of locally produced products and gifts, many of which you won’t find on the high street.

If you’re out and about in the city, keep your ears open for the sound of the Cathedral bells, which are regularly rung for both Cathedral services and secular events of local and national significance.

As well as weekly services, the Cathedral is also open throughout the year or a number of events. From musical performances to screenings of your favourite films and charity events, there are a wide range of activities to get involved in at Derby Cathedral whether you are passing through or looking to make a special trip!
