What to Expect at The Lion – One of the Leading Hotels near Derby
The Lion Hotel’s New Year’s Eve Masquerade Ball starts at 7 pm and goes on till late. Arrive in your best attire with the aim to impress and don’t forget your mask! On arrival, you’ll be greeted with a glass of bubbly and a selection of canapes. Guests are invited to walk around and mingle with other attendees whilst we wait for all guests to arrive and then the celebrations can begin. All evening guests will be treated to fresh gourmet food, live music, a disco, racing seats, casino and much more.
Masquerade balls were a feature of the carnival season in the 15th century bringing people together for festive occasions whilst hiding one’s identity. In the early days of the masquerade ball, the theme was used to celebrate weddings, social affairs and more. Masquerades include lots of music and dancing and that’s exactly what we provide at The Lion.
Fun Fact: In William Shakespeare’s play of Romeo & Juliet, the two protagonists met at a masquerade party.
